CLIC Sargent is a registered
charity that provides children
and their families with
support in times of need.
Doctor Chocolate played a charity
event in the year 2000 for CLIC Sargent in
Weston super Mare. One of several bands
to perform on the night they helped to raise
in excess of £3000.
The organiser of the event stepped down due to illness and Sarah Cox, vocalist with Doctor Chocolate, stepped into the breech and volunteered to run all future charity events for the charity. Since this time Doctor Chocolate have played every year for this extremely worthwhile cause which has now raised in excess of £46,000.
Due to Doctor Chocolate headlining
the event year after year and ensuring that
their performance stays fresh and is varied it
has guaranteed that tickets have sold out
every time with over 650 attending the
event each February.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer
it can seem like normal life stops and a
different journey begins. It’s a journey that
tests families physically, emotionally, socially
and financially. To be told that a child has
cancer comes as a terrible shock. Yet to
know that seven out of ten children now
survive cancer may offer some kind of
comfort and reassurance to families. Thanks
to research into treatment and causes the
outlook is now one of hope, forward
thinking and positive outcomes.
That’s why Doctor Chocolate have agreed to help raise as much money as possible by organising charitable events with every penny raised on the night going to the charity. £46,000 is a huge amount of money to raise and Doctor Chocolate are extremely proud to have raised this money, and to continue raising money, for the benefit of children and their families. If you are interested in attending a charity event run by Doctor Chocolate then please contact our website or email Sarah Cox direct on sarah@doctorchocolate.co.uk and more information can be emailed to you! A Tanglewood guitar signed by Brian May is auctioned and raises a fantastic £1000 for CLICSargent. This item raised a great deal of publicity following auction. The businessman who purchased the guitar as an investment decided to play the guitar the morning after. Sadly he got a little carried away and managed to wipe off half the signature on the guitar. Hastily ringing Sarah Cox from Doctor Chocolate the next morning she managed to get in contact with Brian May again who agreed to resign the guitar - this time on the back of the head so as to avoid any accident! What an amazing guy!

Of course the story got out and hit all
the national papers - the flip side to this was
the papers agreed to pay for the story
which raised a further £100 for CLICSargent!
Result!
The following year another Tanglewood
Guitar was signed by Van Morrison also
reached £1000 on auction. The year after
a Tanglewood guitar signed by the infamous
Gary Moore fetched £500.
Trying a different angle the next set of
items to be auctioned were CD’s - Jools
Holland (who also signed another
Tanglewood guitar that raised £500), Sam
Brown, Marc Almond, Dionne Warwick
collectively raised over £500.
The money raised has been a fabulous
amount and a big thank you goes to all the
celebrities who agreed to sign them! Of
course Tanglewood Guitars have been
extremely generous and donated them all
free of charge.
A hard copy Harry Potter book signed by J K Rowling was also obtained and was auctioned for over £350.00. Paul Weller and Blondie were also approached by Doctor Chocolate and signed some fabulous black and white posters which were then framed and auctioned raising an amazing £450 for the two items. Every single penny from the events and the auctions went to the charity.
A BIG THANK YOU TO: Jools Holland, Blondie, Paul Weller, Marc Almond, Van Morrison, Dionne Warwick, Matt Lucas, Brian May, David Walliams and J K Rowling.
